Adventure, friendship, and the joy of flight suitable for readers of all ages.
Well folks, Little Miss Ella is another one of Dad's Dog creations, just like the Sue Sisters and little Gear Box. When you read Book Three, then you know that Ella's story begins across the pond in Wales. And folks, what a story it is. You see, after the passing of Sir Charles Cadwallader, our entire family traveled to Wales to attend his funeral. While we were there, we visited The Second Chance Animal Shelter Rescue and Rehoming Center in Pembroke. Now this wasn't just any shelter. This was the very same shelter where Cooper's first Dad, Sir Charles, had found and adopted him years earlier. So naturally, Mom wanted to visit the place where Cooper's story had begun.
Now folks, I should have recognized the warning signs immediately. Whenever Mom walks into a place filled with Dachshunds and Corgis things tend to happen. And sure enough.
They did. While we were touring the shelter, Mom spotted a little blond long-haired Dachshund. She was sweet. She was adorable. And she had the kind of face that could melt steel.
That little Dachshund was Ella.
Then, as if one future family member wasn't enough, Mom met a young floppy-eared Corgi named Reese. Now folks, suddenly Mom had a problem. Not a big problem a wonderful problem. She couldn't decide which one she wanted to adopt and take back to Tennessee with us. There stood little Ella and there stood Reese. And Mom's heart was trying to adopt both of them at the same time. Now Dad watched this situation develop for approximately three seconds before offering what he considered a perfectly logical solution. He said, "Why don't we adopt both of them?"
Folks... That's one of the many reasons Dad should never be allowed unsupervised near animal shelters. The moment he said it, the decision was made. Mom smiled. Dad smiled.
Ella smiled. Reese smiled. And somewhere in the distance, I could almost hear the shelter paperwork multiplying. Just like that, Reese and Little Miss Ella became part of the family.
And just like that, Dad had two wonderful new characters for Book Three.
Now here's the part that makes this story extra special. In real life, Mom Linda had always dreamed of having a little blond long-haired female Dachshund. For years she had talked about how much she would love one. So when Dad was creating Book Three, he decided to create the perfect little Dachshund just for Mom. And that folks is how Little Miss Ella was born.
A sweet little blond long-haired Dachshund with a heart full of love and enough charm to win over everyone she meets. Today, Little Miss Ella is a proud member of the UASRO Team.
She's joined Me, Dunkin, Cooper, Reese, Jake, the Sue Sisters, and all of our other friends on countless adventures. And if you ask me... I don't think she had any trouble fitting in.
After all, she joined a family that already contained a flying Dachshund, a Donut-loving Dachshund, two Corgis, three Cavalier King Charles Spaniel sisters, and enough aviation stories to fill an entire library. Compared to that. Being adopted in Wales was probably the most normal thing that happened all week.
And friends that's the true story of Little Miss Ella. A little blond Dachshund who started out in a shelter in Pembroke, Wales. And ended up exactly where she belonged. Right here with the rest of us at UASRO. And folks, I think Mom would tell you that Ella stole everyone's heart the moment she jumped into Mom's arms.
